Duty of Care

Duty of Care is a law put in place to ensure that businesses are responsible for taking all reasonable steps to keep waste products safe. The law states that all waste must be stored in a safe and secure manner so as not to cause harm or pollution to people or the environment.

The following information summarises the regulations set out for Duty of Care:

Secure and safe packaging

• All waste must be stored in suitable containers so that it cannot blow away, fall out or escape from the container.
• Waste must be protected against unauthorised removal wherever this is reasonably practical.
• Sufficient security should be in place to prevent containers being broken open and the waste being removed by thieves, vandals, animals, accident or weather.

Licensed waste collection

It is the responsibility of the business to ensure that any organisation or company collecting their waste is fully licensed by the Environment Agency. This authorisation permits organisations to remove and transport waste and dispose of it in a safe manner.

Waste transfer note

The business must supply a written description of any waste being removed to the person removing it. This written description is known as a waste transfer note and must be completed by both parties involved in the waste transfer.

WE SORT AND COMPRESS A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THE WASTE WE COLLECT. THIS TREATED WASTE CAN THEN BE USED AS FUEL FOR POWER STATIONS MAKING IT A VERY ECOLOGICALLY FRIENDLY SYSTEM FOR REDUCING THE CARBON FOOTPRINT OF THE UK.
